Directors and Staff

A Family Affair

Camping is truly a family affair. Second and third generation camp owners/directors, Richard Bloom and Amanda Bloom Robbins, are dedicated to providing children and families with a positive, nurturing, and enriching summer camp experience. It’s our philosophy!

We are here for you!

Your family’s happiness IS our business. As onsite owners and directors, we do not clock in at 9 and out at 5. We are deeply involved in making every camper’s experience EXTRAORDINARY! We make ourselves accessible to campers and parents every day during the camp season.

If you have a question or concern, we encourage you to call us, and to call us anytime, morning, noon, or night—weekdays and weekends. We know when your kids are happy and safe, you are happy. That’s why at Camp Playland of Redding you are more than a program participant; you are a valued member of our summer family.

Meet Our Staff

Camp Playland counselors round out our summer family. Playland counselors are chosen for their maturity, ability, experience, enthusiasm, and sincere love of children. Our team is comprised of teachers, coaches, parents, college and high school students. Senior and Junior group counselors stay with campers all day and escort groups to each activity. Activities are planned and led by our wonderful specialist staff. At each activity our staff to camper ratio is one to five or better! Campers love seeing their favorite counselors return year after year.

Richard Bloom

Uncle Richard has been involved at Camp Playland as a camper, counselor, specialist, and director since 1957. His best days are spent with kids including his two children, their spouses, and grandson. Uncle Richard was an aquatics specialist at his father’s camp in the seventies and is often found working with campers at the Playland Pools.

Amanda Bloom Robbins

Aunt Amanda has been involved at Camp Playland as a camper, counselor, specialist, and director since 1990. You might see Aunt Amanda around town teaching piano, voice, dance, and drama to kids at area elementary schools and studios. With a background in performing arts, you can find Aunt Amanda leading camp sing alongs and playing on the drama deck.

Shelby Halliday

Head Counselor

Aunt Shelby has been at Playland for 5 summers. Prior to joining our camp family Aunt Shelby was a camper and counselor at Camp Washington in Lakeside, CT. She is certified as a lifeguard, archery instructor, and ropes course facilitator. During the school year, Aunt Shelby is a secondary education science teacher in Fairfield. You can find Aunt Shelby at Ropes and mentoring fellow staff members.

Diane Sarna

Aquatics Director

Aunt Diane has been a member of our Playland family for nineteen years! She began her tenure as our Ropes Course specialist with her two daughters in tow and is now head of our swim staff. During the school year, Aunt Diane is a secondary English teacher in Bedford, NY and an active volunteer in her community. Annually she enjoys leading a service trip to Nicaragua to build homes with local communities.

Curtis Urbina

Upper Camp Leader

Uncle Curtis has been at Playland for 7 summers. He comes to Camp with his son and daughter and leads our oldest Camp group, the Seniors! Born and raised in the Bronx Uncle Curtis often runs back to NYC to sign new artists to his record label! A modern renaissance man, he is also seen around Newtown coaching youth wrestling.

Tricia Misurelli

Office Manager

Aunt Tricia has been at camp for 9 seasons. If you ask Aunt Tricia what she does, she will tell you she runs the Camp…and it’s true! As office manager she works with directors, staff, parents, and campers keeping everyone organized and on task. Aunt Tricia’s three sons all attended camp and two have also been members of our staff. Aunt Tricia has a Masters degree in Education and is currently a head teacher in a preschool classroom in Ridgefield. She embodies Camp spirit.
