Our Story

Camp Playland of Redding is the premier day camp serving families in Northern Fairfield County, since 1996!

But our story begins in 1957 with the founding of Camp Playland New Canaan, by Pearl and Walter Bloom, and Adele and Sy Breslow.  Camp Playland New Canaan continues as a family operation with Walter’s son, Gary Bloom, and grandson, Steve Bloom at the helm.

Walter saw the need to bring his style of camping to northern Fairfield County.  His vision came to be when he and his son, Richard Bloom, opened Camp Playland of Redding in 1996.  In 2015 Amanda Bloom Robbins joined her father to become the third generation of Blooms directing Camp Playland of Redding.

So you see, excellence in camping is in our blood.  Providing your family with a one-of-a-kind summer to remember is our family’s business.

Camp Playland Today

We take great pride in continuing the legacy of our parents and grandparents.  Camp Playland of Redding was intentionally built as a day camp from the ground up.  Our beautiful 36-acre property enjoyed life as a quarry before we redeveloped it.  A family home was the first building on the property doubling as a year round residence for Richard and Barbara Bloom, and a camp facility, housing our winter office, nursery/kindergarten area, Lego Land, and our Arts & Craft space.  Living on our campus year round means we are there for you and accessible at all times.  It also means we are constantly upgrading our facilities and keeping our grounds safe and beautiful.
